When I made a post on my perception of starcomms Nigeria internet service, one of our subscriber suggested use of internet accelerator with internet service from any of nigerian networks. Actually, I am not a fan of most free softwares available online for security purpose. However, early this morning I decided to test starcomms latest invention iBoost.
iBoost according to starcomms is “internet accelerator designed to enhance your network connection by accelerating data transfer. It provides efficient data transfer even on low bandwidth networks, thus speeds up your internet activity. And it can be used with any of Starcomms data products, either Starcomms OneX or izap Superfast Broadband.”
“System Requirement and Supported Operating Systems:
* iBOOST Client Supported Operating System
* 32 MB RAM, 6 MB disk space
* Internet or network connection
* TCP/IP installed and configured
* For the iBOOST Client to communicate with the iBOOST Server.The iBOOST client is preconfigured with server name.

- 98 SE, 2000, XP SP1 or higher and Vista
- Minimum requirement: Pentium III or higher
* Apple Macintosh
- OS 10.3 and higher ( will be launched soon)
* Browsers
- IE 5.5 and higher

iBoost client runs automatically when you start your computer. However, you can turn it on or off as you wish.”
The size of iBoost app. is 7.6mb and it took me about 1hr to download using starcomms oneX service. I left home for office immediately after download the set up file so I haven’t use it with oneX service. However, using it with starcomms izap evdo I didn’t notice about 40% increase in the download speed which is not too bad. I will reserve my final comment till I test it on oneX which is same as dial up service.

Yesterday one of their staff at toyin street office told me they offer download service in starcomms office. I don’t know how true it is. You may want to check them if you use oneX dial up service.

I have already downloaded the Iboost and installed it. I am using it ith he Evdo and i can say there is some improvement (a little improvement though). Wish i had a faster and smoother system.

I downloaded the iboost already and i use it with Starcomms Onex. For me i think its okay, though the effect is not that much but it helps the speed a little. I think its a good innovation and i hope they improve on it
When it comes to download,I think broadband is still the best option.However if its just for surfing then dial up like starcomms and the rest are manageable.I use both starcomms and broadband depending on what I want to do at the moment.
Any comments on visafone,do people use it for browsing,and how good is it?

I am actually using broad band, I have a person who use Multilinks who just give up last week for Retel, he say that retel USB for now is better than multilinks in terms of speed.
I have head that before, before this very guy confirm it again.Although some ague that is because no much traffic on the line for now compare to the competitors.
This is a good info as far as internet connection in Nigeria is concerned, since many of us still rely heavily on dial up service. I’ve read comments by others, I’ll download it and come back here to share my experience.

A lady from Starcomms office, called me asking me if I am enjoying starcomms internet dial up connection? I was like, hhmm, is slow during day time sha! So she was like ok have you heard of iboost? I was like no! I was at the office then, login in and downloaded the said iboost on the top right side of starcomms official website. From my own personally experience. I will say its better than the latter. I want to thank all Starcomms staff for the good job they are doing there e nor easy oh! But we thank God for starcomms let then go to rural areas and make their in ternet subscription cheap.

Hi Rich kid thanks for the info but the iboost could not be download because windows can not verify the publisher name. So can you tell me how you are able to dowload it with 1x because that is what i use.
i am also a Starcomms IZAP user and i have downloaded the iboost software…….i dont know what to say, it doesnt (to me) speed anything up. All it does is reduce the quality of pictures hence reducing the size of the webpage you want to view…..giving the user an apparent increase in speed. For Download addicts (such as myself) i notice No change what so ever.
Meanwhile, is it just me noticing that Starcomms Izap (EVDO) is MEGA slow these days.

you are not alone. i’ve also noticed that starcomms has slowed considerably (by as much as 66%)i’ve been calling them but i dont see any improvement but i’ll keep calling them.
I used starcomms izap evdo connection. The speed is encouraging in the night. I also enjoy free sms sending using the express card, except that it’s working with zain numbers. I was only recently got the iboost to work. I think some firewalls can make iboost not work. I am now using AVG and iboost is working. as to the speed enhancement, well what i discovered was that; My DU meter shows tremendous increase in speed as from av of 70KB/S to more than 250KB/S, well in the night sha!. But Internet download manager IDM was only showing 70% of that. and the speed was eractic!. the summary is iboost helps internet speed. in addition Venturi wireless, the maker of starcomms iboost is claimed to leader in compression tech. thanks

Starcomms service(INTERNET) is crappy,but at least u know its fast as nite, so u can stay up late. I Moved onto MTN believing the service will be better it was a DISASTER,the service is so bad sometimes for a whole day am unable to browse it either connects and ur pages dont open or it doesnt find remote server to connect too(OF COS I DONT GET COMPENSATED FOR THAT)
Now am torn between going back to the devil i know (STARCOMMS) or the saint am yet to fully xperience Reltel,tried it on a friends pc and it was really fast ,

Pls can I get a little clarification on these posts.Are the problems expressed here experienced when surfing the internet on cellphones;or are the same experience when you arev connected through laptop/desktop.Whatever is the case;how much longer will people take this “only-possible-in-Nigeria” internet experience before NCC DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?To be sincere with you guys,internet is useless without speed.Infact I dont know of anything more frustrating than watching Nation cup on NTA in the late 80’s.
