It’s been long since I visit cybercafe to access internet. I am forced to check one out because IPNX – our internet service provider has been offline wor days now. At the beginning I thought it is just usual short maintainance routine but when I later got text message from them after 72hrs, I realise it is a very serious problem this time.

The ongoing NITEL workers strike is affecting internet access to/fro nigeria.

I did not even know that NITEL workers are on strike before.
Nobody know how long this will take. It may not be resolved till next week if latest news from punch is anything to go by,
Imoko said, “NITEL is a major provider of landline services to many government agencies and major corporate organisations in the country. Also, through the SAT-3 cable infrastructure, NITEL provides a major international link from Nigeria to the outside world.
“As a consequence of the workers’ strike, subscribers who rely on NITEL’s fixed lines would invariably resort to patronising other service providers, thus increasing the congestion on those networks.
“Also, the disruption in the SAT-3 cable infrastructure would result in many subscribers from various networks in the country making several unsuccessful attempts to reach international destinations.”
He added, “These have the combined effect of adding to the frustrations of subscribers as well as promoting network congestion.”

What an inconvenience this is going to cuase.Well, whatever happens, we must keep moving.. Though, I have been faced with some other challenges from Sunday Morning.But, today I discovered that starcomms is still working, if anybody has away to get it as an alternative,it may save the situation for now.

the same problem is occurring with my own Isp ( linkserve)
service too.
I`m very much disturbed since last week Tuesday since my internet activities was put on hold due to this problem, even the cafe`s could not help matters over here because of the off,on,slow,snail connection.
I heard this morning that the staffs of Nitel have suspended the strike.Hope things will normalize this week.
It is painful. But we have to endure. I haven’t read or heard the news. But if it is true they’ve suspend it, it will be great.
