7 reasons why now is best time to start internet business in nigeria

In the next few moments, I’m going to show you that you have a critical advantage over 99.9% of those that join the internet business opportunity wagon few years ago.

Specifically, I’m going to show you 7 ways now is the best time EVER to start internet business or launch process to grow existing one. This is complete unfair advantage.

  • Affordable computers – you can easily get affordable, new, branded or fairly used computers, either desktop or laptop now. You can even get one on credit from dealers that runs special offer in partnership with banks. For as little as N30, 000 you can have a complete computer today. A great advantage for you.
  • Affordable internet connectivity almost everywhere – the cost of accessing internet is getting cheaper almost every day now. Though the service is not 100 per cent ok yet but it’s still better than none. Presently, I am on 4 different connection; 2 dial ups, 1 broadband and 1 semi-broadband access. I am making this post using my starcomms 1x dial up service. I can’t imagine accessing internet now for 30 days with same amount I use to access internet just for 3 days few years back. It’s getting better my brother.
  • Payment processing and card services – though this is not where I really expect it to be now but the joy of been able to walk into the bank and get prepaid credit/debit card at normal exchange rate is a wonderful thing to ever happen. I can remember years back, when I want to buy stuffs online I often pay twice the price of what I want to buy. The service provider milked us very well. But thank God today with my MasterCard and visa card I don’t need their service anymore.
  • New improved banking system – I must commend Prof. Charles Soludo and his team here. We now have fewer and stronger banks. The competition is very strong among the banks now. They now offer wide range of services. For example you can walk into some of Nigerian banks today and open domiciliary account in minutes. Who would have tried these years back?
  • Registered Regulatory Bodies – efcc and other anti corruption bodies are trying their best at reducing cyber crime in Nigeria. Also, we now have ‘Internet marketing association of Nigeria’. A body we can trust as internet marketing voice. IMAN is registered already. They should commence their operation soon.
  • More Nigerian internet success story – gone are the days when you only have few experts sharing their success story. Almost every week now we read about another latest Internet success story in the news. Through there are a lot of masquerades out there but we can’t ignore few REAL success stories.
  • Exchange rate is favourable – no matter how weak the financial journalist and broad-street Experts wants us to believe that dollar is weaker against Nigeria, it is still better. Imaging earning $1 online and exchanging it for 118 naira. It’s still a good business. I guess that’s the reason why some Nigerians want to get VISA to US or Uk at all cost. My brother you don’t need it. You can earn cool dollars here in Nigeria.

If you’ve been around for some time you may have some points to add here. Even if it’s just one sentence, tell us here. You contribution is important.

Interesting topic.

Its true that banks now offer Mastercard and Visa cards, but are they being accepted online? What has the experience been trying to use these cards on sites like Google, FaceBook, Yahoo and other popular sites? The last time I tried a card on FaceBook it was rejected. Have I just been unlucky? I’d like to know what other people’s experiences have been.

Please tell me more about IMAN. Who are the promoters? Do they have a website?

And how about the legal environment? Are there laws to protect e-commerce merchants and to regulate online trasactions? Do the courts recognize online agreements as evidence? Where are we in that area? How do merchants hedge against spurious claims? Maybe that is one area where IMAN can perform a policy advocacy role.

Rich Kid’s Response:

I agree with you Bassey. Some site may not accept card from here. But the obvious truth is that (in most cases) it’s not the card they reject but nigerian ip. We all know the reason why. But where this is the case you can use access the site through proxy. We do this often here. And never have problem using cards to make payment. If you need further assistance you can contact us directly.

People behind IMAN will surely make everything open soon. And your numero-uno won’t hesitate to update you as well.

Hi “Rich Kid”,
Kudos to you for all your encouragement to us in Internet marketing. The efforts of people like you and “Rich Dad” and others have brought the internet marketing in Nigeria to a good and positive level of visibility.
I agree with you that the payment process still needs to be improved, however the playing field is more encouraging. It is certainly much easier to enter into Internet Marketing Now! Thanks for your wonderful tips. I am still looking forward to the activation of my payment platform to enable me start to drive traffic that would be converted to cash. One good thing that I gained as a consequence of the take me by hand program, is that I am now more determined to make a headway in Internet Marketing. Thanks Thanks Thanks. Pat.

Rich Kid’s Response:

Madam hope you got back home safely?

hi lateef,
i must thank you very much for these words of encouragement.infact iam a beginner.i just made up my mind now to start this internet biz.pls.how do i get paypal to kickstart.again, what is the difference b/e paypal and these visa, mastercard etc?why do they always say that paypal as a means of payment is not accepted from nigeria?pls.i live in benin, can you take me by hand and mentor me?

Rich Kid’s Response:

Paypal is a payment gateway/online payment that makes it easy for people to exchange money through the use of email through still with the use of mastercard and visa card. Mastercard and visa card are payment card. It can be prepaid or credit card.

Paypal don’t accept nigeria but some people have developed backdoor strategy to opening the account. This is not 100% guarantee that it is secure.

Depending on what you want to do there are others alternatives. Check this website for previous article on payment system.

Thanks so much Rich Kid.My main problem is the Internet connection. I’ve tried the free stuff but it’s not working. The local ISPs around here are too expensive while O’Net’s Network is damn too bad. However, am not giving up anyway.

Rich Kid said,

Mr Lawal can you give us example of places where you’ve not bee able to use the card successfully online?

Thanks for those points mr ezekiel.

Hi Olajide,
Another thoughtful piece. You can’t be more right in all that you mentioned in your write-up. The part that gets to me these days really is the mode of cashing your proceeds from online ventures or making payments. With faceless hackers at every turn on the Net; waiting to cash in on the naivety of newbies. Also internet connectivity - yes we’re getting there. But probably you forgot to raise the issue of POWER. Depending on where you live(a la rationing, Transformer blow-up, electricity cable/line vandals…)the onus lies on you to perenially generate your own electricity. How does that tell on the bottom-line?
Nevertheless the only thing that one has going, really, for one is the grit and determination to succeed.Afterall, isn’t it on record that the wealth of certain great Men of old far outweigh that of present-day moguls even with far less infrastructure/facility than we have today; that I stand to be corrected.
Keep up the good work “Rich Kid”

JesusFreak, uk address is better. We can secure you one.

I need help. I want to buy Credit card but I am discouraged because of the experience I had with http://www.digikey.com (USA) over some electronic chip I wanted to buy from them. I asked a friend (in UK) to buy them for me from USA and direct them to Nigeria. All attempt failed. We had to reorder it from USA to UK and courier it to Nigeria. The cost of courier, tax etc was almost the same value as the good itself. Can there be a better way out for me Rich Kid?

Rich Kid said,

August 26, 2008 @ 1:47 pm

If I understand your question what you need is credit card. Is that correct. If yes, then contact your bank. It is that simple.

Rich Kid.
It is a fact that we are in a more conducive atmosphere than ever before. Particularly with regards to the online payment system that makes purchases a lot easier.

It is worthy to note that nowadays one can find internet gurus that are willing to reveal all the secrets. The online payment system goes side by side with the receiving system. During the just concluded 7 days hold me by the hand seminer you divulged teribly precious secrets in this regard. I will ever continue to appreciate God for making me to find you. And to you sir, i like to say a big THANK YOU SIR. And to those still dragging their feet i will say Get up make hay while the sun shines.

Looking forward to hearing from you -Regards
