How to build your own mailing list

In my article yesterday, 7 deadly internet marketing mistake – I reference importance of having a list. In it I said;

“No, it is not a cliche. I sometimes make $500 in a day just sending an email to my list. The key is not to bombard them with offers day after day. Give them quality content, treat them with respect and then when you DO have something to offer, they are more likely to be receptive to it. Having mastery of list building alone can make you 4 figures income every month effortlessly. If you don’t have a list, you are throwing money away. One of us emailed me requesting for ways to get quality list. I decided to make my response to this fellow my tip of the day. I will make it very brief.

What is mailing list and why should I build one?

This is a group of people that have raised their hands, signify their interest in what you do. They are your potential customer. Most often offline it’s not everybody that visit your shop that buy what you sell. The same thing online, but you don’t have to make the same mistake average traditional businessmen do make offline by throwing away potential customers just because they don’t buy today.

In sales process, except where the buyer is at the point of desperation he or she may likely not buy what you sell without previous relationship. So there is a need to build relationship with potential customers. So that when they want to buy something you can position yourself as the best candidate – GATEKEEPER.

You can build list of subscribers in any market. If you receive alert email about IMN latest post in your email box, it simply means you are on our mailing list – you are a subscriber.

How to build your mailing list?

See in 2009 if all you concentrate on is building list in a specific niche market, I can guarantee your bank account will SWELL LIKE NEVER BEFORE. You will have more connection. Lots of other marketers in your niche will want to do business with you (joint venture). You can send email to subscribers and make money anytime.

To build a list you have to consider following;

1. Your offer
2. Your system

List building is all about value. What will you give to attract people to your list? You must give what people in your market need but not only want. This is not difficult to discover if you pay attention to discussion in your market – visit forums, read blogs and market places in your market. Your offer can be a short free report, ebook, audio or something else that your market will love. Your system includes autoresponder account (the service with which you manage your list – the web based service like getresponse.com and aweber.com are better), offer page where you describe what you are giving away and where you place form code you get from autoresponder.
If you will be using offer page you may want to get domain name and host it as well. However, that’s not a must because you can just give your autoresponder email address to people. It’s better if you can have it.

Action Steps to follow

1. Pick a niche (it may be your present niche)
2. Study them to know their area of interest (pain and desperation)
3. Create your offer – something to give away
4. Sign up with autoresponder – getresponse preferable.
5. Register a domain name – if you have a domain name hosted in that market already you don’t have to register another one again.
6. Write description of your offer – the headline, sub headline, bullet list of benefits.
7. Create a one page site – add your offer description and autoresponder form code. You can design the site using microsoft frontpage software or any other website editor. 8. Start promoting your free give away opt in page.
